White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana looks to put an end to his tough luck when he starts the opener of a three-game series with the American League Central-leading Indians on Friday at U.S. Cellular Field.
Quintana is 0-6 with a 4.15 ERA in his past six starts after starting the season 5-1 with a 1.38 ERA. In his past six starts, Quintana has received only four runs of support.
The Indians will counter with right-hander Trevor Bauer, who is 4-2 with a 3.69 ERA overall and 3-2 with a 3.47 ERA in nine starts this season.
Three things to know about this game
• Quintana is the first White Sox pitcher to receive zero or one runs of support in six or more straight starts since it happened to Ross Baumgarten in seven consecutive starts in 1980.
• Bauer is 3-1 with a 3.54 ERA in seven career starts against the White Sox.
• The White Sox entered Wednesday's game against the Tigers having gone 2-12 in their past 14 games against AL Central opponents.
