Hard-throwing left-hander Carlos Rodon will try to send the White Sox into their next road trip on a good note in the finale of a series against the Twins on Thursday afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field.
Rodon will make his second start of the season against Minnesota after throwing six shutout innings against the Twins on April 13 at Target Field. He took a no-decision in his most recent start after allowing two runs and striking out eight in 5 2/3 innings against the Blue Jays in Chicago.
The White Sox will be playing a second straight game without Melky Cabrera, who aggravated a wrist injury in Tuesday's series opener.
"He has a little sprain, so it's going to be three or four days for him to be able to get over that," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "At this point we're just going to wait and see, but it's significant for him not to be in there for a couple days."
Left-hander Tommy Milone will start for the Twins in just his second Major League appearance since his contract was selected from Triple-A Rochester on June 18. Milone took the loss against the Yankees in his previous outing, on June 24 at Yankee Stadium, in which he allowed four runs (one earned) in 3 2/3 innings.
Three things to know about this game
• Cabrera's injury, combined with Austin Jackson's stint on the 15-day disabled list, leaves the White Sox shorthanded off the bench, and they could recall a player from the Minors for the series finale.
• Minnesota's Brian Dozier extended his hit streak to 11 games on Wednesday and set a franchise record by recording an extra-base hit in 10 straight contests.
• Tim Anderson on Wednesday became the third White Sox player since 1913 to record nine multihit efforts over his first 18 games, joining Gus Zernial (1949) and Greg Mulleavy (1930). He also extended his hitting streak to six games.
