The Twins and Yankees will meet for the second of a four-game series at Target Field on Friday night, with rookie southpaw Pat Dean set to take the mound for Minnesota opposite Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka.
Tanaka was ineffective in his last start, a loss to the Tigers, in which he allowed five runs in 6 1/3 innings to snap a streak of four consecutive quality starts. The right-hander gave up two home runs, with a three-run shot by Ian Kinsler in the fifth doing the brunt of the damage.
Dean struggled with his control against the Red Sox in his last outing, walking four and throwing just 57 percent of his pitches for strikes. However, he only scattered three hits and allowed one run through 6 1/3 innings to bounce back from two rough starts and spur the Twins to a 7-4 victory.
