The Orioles and Rangers will join all uniformed personnel across Major League Baseball in wearing the No. 42 on Jackie Robinson Day on Friday.
The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will present checks to the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce and Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and the United Negro College Fund as part of pregame activities. Tameka Selders, a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Alumnus who is now a mentor teacher at St. Phillip's School, will throw out the first pitch.
When the game begins, the Orioles will turn to Vance Worley, while the Rangers will counter with Martin Perez.
Worley will be seeking to build on a 4 2/3-inning no-decision outing against the Rays on Sunday. Worley struck out five and allowed three runs on seven hits as he was limited to 79 pitches. He expects to be able to pitch longer now.
"Considering I hadn't really been stretched out, I was just trying to go as deep into the game as I could," Worley said. "That outing should have built me up to get a little deeper for this next one."
Martin is vying to rebound from a 3-1 loss to the Angels on Sunday, when he allowed seven hits and five walks over 6 1/3 frames.
"That's part of the game," said Martin on if he's focused on cutting down the free passes. "Sometimes you walk a guy. I don't want to think too much about walks, just go out there and do my job and give my team a chance to win the game."
Three things to know about this game
• The game marks the Rangers' 12th of 14 consecutive games to start the season -- the only team in the Majors without an off-day during that span -- and the second of a seven-game homestand against the Orioles and Astros.
• Despite losing back-to-back games for the first time this season, the Orioles (7-2) sit 2 1/2 games ahead of the Blue Jays (5-5) and Red Sox (4-4) in the American League East.
• Adrian Beltre is riding a seven-game hitting streak, the longest active streak on the Rangers.
