After a season-opening road trip that saw them go 0-6, the Twins are hoping heading home to Target Field can give them a much-needed jump-start to their season. Right-hander Kyle Gibson gets the nod in the home opener on Monday at 3:10 p.m. CT and opposes White Sox lefty Jose Quintana, who saw his start pushed back a day after a rainout on Sunday.
"I'm looking forward to it," Gibson said. "Hopefully, we can give the fans a homestand to be excited about. I know we haven't been playing our best baseball, and we're looking forward to coming home where we played really well last year. We enjoy playing in front of those fans."
Things to know about the game
• Gibson struggled with his command in his debut, allowing four runs on seven hits and five walks over five innings. But he pitched well at home last year, posting a 3.55 ERA in 17 starts. The Twins also played well at home last year, going 46-35 at Target Field.
• Quintana gave up two runs over 5 2/3 innings in his debut against A's on Tuesday, but he was stuck with a no-decision. He's had 53 no-decisions since 2012, which leads the Majors over that span. He was scheduled to start Sunday, but with the rainout, Chicago altered its rotation, as Quintana will start Monday and will be followed by Carlos Rodon and Mat Latos in the final two games of the series.
• White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton was placed on the paternity list on Sunday, but he is expected to rejoin the team Monday. Eaton didn't end up missing a game since the scheduled tilt against the Indians was postponed due to rain.
