Heavy Weight Fight

Dallas Keuchel and Clayton Kershaw headed on the mound for game five equals pitching duel and quick work right? Well it was a duel all right but not so much pitching.  Keuchel posted a 2.90 ERA, went 14-5, and had a whip of 1.12.  Kershaw went 18-4, posted a 2.31 ERA, and threw 202 strike outs.  His whip was 0.95.  So, I would expect a pitcher's duel.  My oh my what was I thinking?

In the first inning Logan Forsythe opened up the scoring with a 2 run single.  The Dodgers would score another run in the first and another in the 4th inning ending Keuchel's game.

In the bottom of the fourth down 4-1 Yuli Gurriel would hit a three run home run to tie the game at 4.

In the top of the fifth Cody Bellinger hit a three run home run to give the Dodgers a 7-4 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning Kershaw would be pulled with a pair of runners on base.  With a pair of runners on Altuve would tie the game at 7 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Dodgers retook the lead to go up by one in the top of the seventh inning, but George Springer tied it with a home run, then Altuve hit a go ahead double, and Carlos Correa would hit a 2 run home run to put the Astros up 11-8.

Corey Seager made it 11-9 in the top of the eighth inning with a double scoring Joc Pederson.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Brian McCann would make it 12-9 with a home run.

In the top of the ninth Yasiel Puig hit a 2 run home run to make it 12-11.  Chris Taylor would hit a ground ball to tie the game at 12.

This marathon would go into extra innings.

In the bottom of the tenth inning Alex Bregman would hit the walk off single to score Derek Fisher giving the Astros a 13-12 win and giving the Astros up 3-2 in the World Series.

A couple stats about this game:
Total pitches thrown were a combined 417 pitches.  There's going to be a lot of dead arms come Monday.  Brian McCann became the 14th different player to hit a home run in this year's World Series, which is a World Series record, there are 22 home runs so far in this year's World Series, which is a World Series record, and there are 101 home runs so far in this year's post season, which is also a record.
