The Angels on Thursday acquired pitcher Brooks Pounders in a trade with the Royals in exchange for right-hander Jared Ruxer, the club announced.
Pounders made his Major League debut on July 5 with the Royals. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed 13 earned runs through 13 relief appearances (12 2/3 innings).
Pounders earned Triple-A Omaha's Pitcher of the Year honors in 2016, going 5-3 with a 3.14 ERA in 31 games. A former second-round Draft pick of the Pirates in 2009, Pounders attended Temecula Valley High School, which is located about 60 miles from Anaheim.
Ruxer, 24, was a 12th-round selection by the Angels in the 2014 Draft. He split last season between Class A Burlington and Class A Advanced Inland Empire, going 4-8 with a 3.08 ERA in 29 games (19 starts).
The Angels also announced on Thursday that left-hander Cody Ege was designated for assignment. Ege was claimed off waivers from the Marlins in August -- posting a 1.04 ERA through 8 2/3 innings of relief for the Angels.
