Norris faces Marlins, eyeing sharper second start

Detroit's Daniel Norris spent the offseason dealing with health issues, including a brief battle with thyroid cancer and non-displaced spinal fractures. Now that he is healthy, Norris is trying to get back on track to being the promising pitching prospect he was when he got traded to the Tigers last July.
Norris, who spent the beginning of the season on the disabled list before heading to the Minors, will make his second Major League start of the season Wednesday as the Tigers take on Tom Koehler and the Marlins to wrap up a brief two-game series at Comerica Park.
In his first start of the season, Norris (0-0, 4.50 ERA) took a no-decision as he allowed three runs in five innings during the Tigers' 5-4 win over the Mariners.
"I felt pretty good," Norris said. "I went out there and felt like I showed good stuff. I put guys away early when I needed to. I went out for a fifth inning and maybe hit a bit of a wall. Where I got hurt was just a couple pitches where I'm just trying to throw a strike in a 2-0 count, and then a first-pitch slider. But I feel pretty confident."
Norris' counterpart, Koehler (6-6, 4.07), picked up a no-decision in his last start, the Marlins' only loss in a four-game home series against the Cubs. He gave up four runs and two homers in the first inning, but allowed just one hit the rest of his six-inning outing.
Things to know about this game
• The Tigers opened the season by winning a two-game set at Marlins Park, including tagging Wei-Yin Chen for five runs on nine hits in five innings on Opening Day. Chen was originally scheduled to start Wednesday, but with Monday's off-day, the Marlins swapped him and Koehler.
• Koehler is 3-1 in June, going six innings in each of his five starts in the month. He has won his last three road starts.
• The Marlins' infield has not committed an error in 27 straight games, dating back to May 29. It is the longest such streak since at least 1913, according to research by STATS LLC.
