Less than three months after opening the season playing for the Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, right-hander Brock Stewart will be making his Major League debut for the Dodgers against the Brewers at Miller Park on Wednesday.
Before Tuesday's contest, Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts announced that Stewart will be promoted from Triple-A to start a game at the fourth different level this season. Roberts has never seen Stewart pitch, but across three levels this season, the organization's No. 26 prospect, per MLBPipeline.com, owns a 1.47 ERA and 99:14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 14 starts.
"He came on our radar as he's ascended," Roberts said. "And where we're at in the last few weeks, it became an option. I had to do some digging on him. We didn't have him in camp."
Stewart will oppose Junior Guerra for the Brewers, who has impressed in his rookie season at 31 years old. The right-hander owns a 3.67 ERA on the season with a 1.141 WHIP across 10 starts. Milwaukee is 8-2 in games started by Guerra this season.
Things to know about this game
• Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner was out of the starting lineup in Tuesday's series opener, but said he expects to play on Wednesday. Turner went 7-for-14 with three homers and seven RBIs when these two teams met earlier in June.
• Guerra faced the Dodgers in that series, and what resulted was the worst start of his Major League career. In 5 1/3 innings, Guerra surrendered a career-high five runs on five hits, but picked up a no-decision as Milwaukee went on to win, 8-6.
• Coming into the series, both teams ranked in the top three for percent of wins via comeback this season. With 19 out of 34 (56 percent), the Brewers ranked second, and the Dodgers were right behind, winning 23 of their 42 games (55 percent) via a comeback.
